I think the Quarter Pounder is a trademark, perhaps some other burger place already has the trademark on the Half-Pounder, and probably as the other person said it's not one half pound burger it's two quarter pound burgers, which sounds like more in a way.

Because people are stupid and may think that double is more than a half pound even when they are the same thing. Plus double sounds better than a half pounder.

It would confuse their customers who like the quarter pounder, they might think it's a totally different burger because they can't do math. I say, wrap it in two quarter pounder wrappers instead of printing a whole new wrapper! They can take advantage of economies of scale with printing that way...THAT would save them some money.

i think a half pounder sounds disgusting, and if you say double quarter pounder you don't seem like such a big pig. Personally I would never eat one.
