Actually there is a third choice. An external conflict that becomes internalized. External conflicts are bad, mostly because you have no control over their outcome, but when you internalize it, you are never truly free of it because you are always haunted by "what if I.....?" Internalized external conflicts are real bad because not only do you have no control on the outcome, but the outcome may very well be a choice you can not tolerate. The most common and prevalent of this condition is divorce. Especially if it results from or results in an internal conflict of your own.

I see internal conflict as a bit different than just arguing with myself, when I have a true internal conflict it implies something similar to the middle east conflict between my ears, I just can't seem to find peace amidst the war. So, I will have to say external is more tolerable because I am free to leave, but with internal conflict, no matter where I go, there I am anyway. Thanks!

well to me conflict is then totally intolerable, whether it is internal or external...
well internal conflicts occur when one does not have a clear frame of mind... he/she must be able to discard any of the dilemmas that they get into their minds while dealing with some of their problems... they must develop a strong character in order to have a say in this present day world.... conflicts be it external or internal will not help in any matter if you want to free this world of problems...
but in severe cases such as terrorism -i believe only mental and physical strength will be able to eradicate them...in those cases i believe conflicts are the only solution....

Of course the internal one is more intolerable as it obstructs the clarity of mind & clear thinking. Then how can one get a real grasp of external conflicts.

whereas, external conflicts unsettle us but we don't lose the power of thinking unless we are directly affected by them, the chances of which are very rare unless we are caught in a holocaust.

In short, internal conflicts affect us personally & immediately where as External conflicts have less chance of affecting us personally & immediately to such a degree!

External.

It is okay to argue with yourself. You know what you are arguing for and why and can come to peace with yourself quickly when you see where the conflict will all end.

It is not so good to fight with others who may not know what this is all about or why this is so important to you or what there is that they can or should do to make this conflict end. We can't read each other's minds and we hurt each other trying to learn how not to hurt each other. It is just not so easy and in some cases, not so easy means both sides just simply go their separate ways.

Time is precious and if you can avoid wasting a moment of it always do so. It will make you happier in the long run.

So I say external.

i can tolerate my personal issues, but the world around me is something i cannot control. things happen wether we like it or not and most of the time these external factors can change the way we are going to live our lives. the reaction we give on this changes depends entirely on us, it comes easy if we understand ourselves more than anything and know what our limits and boundaries.
