Ok, I just posted a question before regarding landing in San Fran and things to do while on our lay over back to Canada.

I think we are going to go to Union Square to check out a few stores (I printed out the map and highlighted the stores i want to go to), then we were thinking of heading to Fishermans Wharf. My question is what is the best way to get to Fishers Wharf from Union Square, please remember we are not familiar with your city at all! Also from the airport should we catch a cab or should we hop on the train...and where is the train from the airport, will it go directly to Union Square?

We land in San Fran at 9ish am and have till 7pm to depart. Also do you think leaving Fisherman Wharf at 4 would be enough time to get back to the airport??

The cable car is probably the most fun way to get to the wharf from Union Square, but the line will probably be long. You can also go to Market Street and catch the F streetcar, that will take you to pier 39. I agree with another poster, if want to take transit back to the airport I'd leave at 3. The lines will be long for both the cable car and street car back to market street. Hope you have a good visit.

You can take the cable car on Powell St. from Union Square to Fisherman's Wharf. I think that's the best way.

As for the airport, you can take BART from Market and Powell Streets. It's a couple of blocks down from Union Square. When you're at the BART station, take the SFO/Millbrae train. The train will stop at the airport if you take that one.

I think that you leave Fisherman's Wharf earlier.... maybe three something? It'll take a while for you to go to the airport from Fisherman's Wharf. Plus, you have to put up with the security checks at the airport, so I would leave the Wharf earlier.

The cable car would be the most direct way to get to the Wharf, although sometimes the cars are filled up by the time they get to Union Square. A cab would be about $4-5.

From the airport, I'd just take a Super Shuttle and tell them to take you to the Westin Hotel; there might even be a hotel shuttle. Or you could take BART and get off at Powell Street and walk up two blocks to Union Square. (On the return ride, be sure to take the SF/Millbrae train.)

On your return from the Wharf, since you have to be at the airport at 5:00 (if in interpret your "depart" time correctly), you might consider paying to lessen your stress and take a cab. It'll be about $30 but completely worth it.
