I'm still surprised that I have to pay $1.00 to buy a bottle of water. Who'd have ever thought that bottling drinking water would have been profitable?

And cell phones! They are a pain in the rear but we have to have them now or our relatives fuss and fume because they can't get in touch with us instantly.

I'm not talking about world politics or anything heavy-duty here. Just the everyday life changes.

I hate being nickled and dimed for things that used to be free because you were a customer. I think a bank charging you a "convenience fee" for withdrawing your own money is ludicrous. I agree about the bottled water, especially since Aquafina (made by Pepsi) has finally admitted that their water is nothing more than tap water, not the fancy artesian spring water that they want you to think it is. I'm sure I could go on and on too . . .

I am 39, so perhaps not your target audience, but there is still something which has changed so much in the last 20-25 years that I am amazed by it all the time.

Common courtesy is nearly dead. Holding doors, allowing the other person to go first when you both get to something at the same time, even just saying "please" and "thank you", they all seem to be disappearing. People who are a generation older than I am still have these skills. I would say only about half the people of my generation have them. And the people in the generation just younger than mine generally have them nearly not at all. I am very disappointed in the people of my generation, who are the parents to the younger kids I come in contact with regularly. It's as if they don't find it important to instill those basic manners in their children.

I truly dread a world where no one holds doors, and no one knows when it is appropriate to use polite words, and when stationery shops stop selling "Thank You" notes because there is no longer a need for them.

Kids no longer simply have a fist fight after school, Now it's guns and knives.

I think the space program is the most amazing thing in my life time so far, If you've never seen a live launch, there is no way to describe it. I've lived on the space coast all my life and never get tired of watching launches, nor do I ever take them for granted. Watching them on TV just doesn't do it. We can stand in our yard and see the rockets leave the pad, The night launches, lighting up the sky like day light.
What a feeling of pride it gives me!

Cordless phones and other electronics. Having been a kid with a black and white TV [and then not until '52] and in adulthood not getting a color tv until the very late 60's I am amazed at how quickly electronics progressed and how small the devices became!

PC's - although I was familiar with mainframes in the 70's early 80's...the home PC has been a Godsend for me. It has allowed me to make contact and keep it with folk who I had 'lost' over the years which brings me joy and it also satisfies my eternal inquisitiveness and I no longer get bored! lol

The way people dress. Being casual is fine, but many
people just dress and look like slobs. No one takes pride
in their appearance anymore. When we were younger,
we had to dress up when we went out to dinner, or to church. Women don't even bother doing their hair any more. They just let it hang down. It looks unkempt.
Also, things don't last the way they used to. Planned
obsolescence.
Also, some good stuff. Microwave ovens make cooking
so easy. Cell phones and the Internet-these are great!!
Computers make communication so easy and fast!

I live near a busy airport and like to watch the planes fly overhead. What amazes me is how they have continued to get bigger and still manage to fly without falling out of the sky. Even though they have become larger, they make less noise than in the 70's.

All the 70's cars like the cuda, gtx, super birds, and 60's corvettes now selling for up to 100 to 200 thousand dollars and back then we could have bought them for around 2 or 3 thousand dollars. If we could have only knew.

The morals in America have changed. I liked it better back when.
We could buy a house for the cost of some cars today.

My face, when I look in the mirror. People's behaviour....some people. The youth of today. Manners. Telephone bills! Dairy product prices. They may be cheap in the US, but are so high is Australia.

The complete breakdown of our moral system. Anything goes these days as long as you dont get caught. Nobody care about etiquette and manners, looking nice when you go out doors.....It is just a shame!
