My bike has a bad battery and it wont hold a charge. I think the bike might have other electrical problems so I dont want to drop $150 on a new battery from the dealer just yet. Is it bad for the charging system to keep using a bad battery by charging it every night?

Also, is there anywhere that sells a battery that will fit my bike? I tried sears, checkers, and walmart and the closest they have is a 12BS which is too tall and may or may not put out the same power. This is a 2004 GSX-R 750 with a 12A-BS battery

$150 is wwaaaayyyyy too much for a new battery. Go to the Interstate Battery website. They can help you out and most bike shops carry them or can order them. If Interstate doesn't make one there are a couple of others like Exide. There's only 3 or 4 battery manufacturer's in the country and they make everybodies batteries for them. Exide makes "Harley" batteries.

A bad battery will cause all kinds of problems, not just hard starting but it won't run right either. Just get a new battery. They are only expected to last 3-5 years

Napa or carquest should have a battery, they might have to order it from supply house but it should only take 1 day.

$150? That's way too much. You could get 2 deep cycles for that money(besides the point).

A bad battery can and WILL toast your alternator. Charging it overnight will only get you started, does not keep the alternator from trying to charge it while you ride.

I got my last battery from Honda of North Hollywood.

Sears had a "recommended replacement" but I measured it with a ruler, and it wasn't going to fit.

If your battery really is bad (they can do a load test at your motorcycle service dept), then you need to get a new battery.

Get a Clymer manual, and a multimeter. The Clymer manual will tell you how to check out the stator, regulator, and rectifier without taking your motorcycle all apart.

You need to replace the battery, as others have stated here, it can cause more problems. JC Whitney carries one for $59.00 per their web-site. Here is the link
