I dress as a woman for Halloween every year.
Usually, I do my shopping at the Salvation Army, but most of their tags are missing, so I have to guess if something fits or not (I'm NOT trying something on there). I do already have a skirt, a dress, a slip, and two blouses, but I feel like I wear the same thing every year.
If I go to a regular store to buy something new, I have no idea as to what size I should buy.
I am 5'9", 215 lbs, 38 inch waist, 30 inch pant leg, thick neck, broad shoulders, I wear XL tops, though I can fit into large.
What sizes do I get in female clothing?

You sound like you might be somewhere around a 14 or 16... the waist size is about right for that... the 215lbs Im thinking is more muscle than the average woman carries. .... possibly a size 18 because of the broader shoulders.

Too, women's clothing makers like to screw with us on the sizes. One size 14 is another maker's size 12 and another's size 16. Trying on is a given.

Go to the department store. Pick something you want to try. Sandwich it between two male items and take it in the men's dressing room. You get the right fit and no one is the wiser.

In some of those shopping catalogues and on some web sites they give the measurements for each size of ladies clothes. You take your measurements and fit them to the nearest size. When you put your sizes here you missed the most important ones breast and hip. Once you have those sizes against the chart you will know which lady's size is for you. Go for that size but if it is a dress or blouse check the shoulder to shoulder measurements as men tend to have bigger shoulders than ladies
