That you have to check which will cost less. Spare parts (like new screen) for laptop usually is expensive and it is better to buy new one. But you have to check both price (new laptop or new screen) to make the decision.

By the way once a laptop is opened up & repaired, it is usually never ending process with more problem cropping up after sometime. So buying new one is not a bad idea.

But if screen broken and rest is working, I suggest you connect it to external monitor (TFT or plain old monitor) and use it as desktop. I did this to my old laptop when its screen died on me. But make sure by testing it on some friend's monitor before buying a new one (or second hand) monitor.

Depends on how old the laptop is, if it would be worth fixing or not. I would say that if it's older than 5 years, then you should just get a new laptop and use the one you have now with an external monitor, after removing the flip screen from the laptop itself. If it's between 2-5 years, only replace the screen if you can find one under $150 (ebay is a good place to find laptop screens). If it's under 2 years old, replace the screen (again, ebay...unless you have accident insurance on your laptop).

Google for "take apart (laptop)", where (laptop) is your laptop's brand and model number. You should find any number of guides on how to take it apart and fix it.

Miss-Straw,

I suggest contacting a company like http://www.screentekinc.com and see if they can help you locate a replacement screen. Or, better yet, if you can get the screen removed and get the part number off the back of the screen and do a search in Google and eBay, you can get a good idea of how much you'll be spending. I might be able to help you figure out what screen you might have if you want to send me an email.

Don't just buy a new laptop. You might be able to get a new screen and have it installed for under $200 depending on you laptop model.

This harm is fairly consistent with the greater moderen HPs in case you're conscious of working interior a laptop you're able to do it your self, else carry it to a shop. you do not grant a form extensive variety or exhibit length, yet i've got used the source decrease than for displays for Toshiba, HP, Dell, Compaq, IBM, and Acer.
