If you can find it on YouTube or as a .flv file then you can go to www.vixy.net and enter the url of the .flv file or the YouTube page you're on. Then click the drop down menu of 'converts to' and select mp3.

If you are unsatisfied with Silent Bob, there is Total Recorder, which works very well and has great versitility, probably more than you require, but it costs something like $11 for the personal use. We use it for recording Skype interviews for our community radio station, among other things.

I think that MP3 Direct Cut will also work, especially if you want MP3 files, and it is free:

You might find something by searching through the open source software at http://sourceforge.net

Audacity, which is a full-fledged open-source sound editor is available on Sourceforge.net, will probably work for what you want, though it might be a bit like using a howitzer to kill flies for your use. You also have to convert your output into whatever kind of file that you want, and it takes a little effort to learn how to use because it is designed for professional use.

If you want to record in compressed format. For playing and recording the MP3 you might have to download the MP3 codec or external dll, which is free, and install it along with the recording software. The accompanying help files can guide you in this and usually they provide links for downloading these. I think something similar goes for Ogg Vorbis, which is an open source compressed format.
