I'm looking to buy a house (my 1st) and noticed that it has mold growth. The owner is ready to remedy this, but I want to know if after the remedial process, is it ok to still buy the house? or I will have problems down the road.

Where is the mold? If on the outside of the house, no issue.
If on the inside I'd want some long term guarantee (10 years minimum) from the company that is going to remedy it.

You need to kill the mold or cut out the materials it's growing on. You need to make sure the area where the mold is growing is properly ventilated/moisture proof or it will come back. If a basement, get a dehumidifier.

With mold there is always two problems. One is the eradication of the mold colonies. However - there also had to be something that allowed the mold to develop. If that underlying cause is not fixed, then the mold will just return.

Sometimes the problem is caused by a leaky pipe- simple to fix if it is easy to get to - much harder to do if it is buried in the walls somewhere. Sometimes it is caused by a drainage problem on a first floor or basement room. in that case something must be done to fix the drainage problem, waterproof the basement or what else needs to be done to permanently re mediate the problem.

Many people are horrified of many mold problems. Yet, it it only as big - or little - of a problem as the under lying cause. Making sure the cause is fixed is the key.

The previous answer is dead on. However, I will add that not all mold is dangerous (still wouldn't want it), but most mold is safe to be around. You can get mold test kits to find out about the mold in the house. I paid about $75 for a kit and then had to send it in to the lab. The test came back with four types of mold none of which were dangerous. We cleaned with bleach water and then made sure any water leaks were taken care of. Primer and paint and we never had another problem. Lived in that home, six years.

Make sure they have professionals handle it, and give a guarantee of their work. If the homeower is going to handle it, you could potentially have a problem in the future. Your call.
