To begin, understand that the Crusades was not a single battle. The Crusades, which in fact were multiple military campaigns, first began in 1095 and endured over several decades.

They began as military actions endorsed by Pope Urban II in the year 1095. The mission of each of the Crusades was to free the Holy Lands (especially Jerusalem) and to free the eastern orthodox Christians from Muslim rule.

Pope Urban "bribed" Kings and Knights and others to wage this war by pronouncing that all who participate were guaranteed that their soul would go to heaven.

Along the way to the Holy Land, the Christians slew and murdered innocent men, women, and children of all religions as classic greed took over the minds of the lords, noblemen, and knights who fought the battles.

Along the way, the Christians desecrated holy sites of all religions, Jewish and Muslim alike.

The Christians were successful for a period of time controlling several major cities including Jerusalem. But in the end, the Muslims organized themselves and vanquished the European invaders.

These Western European atrocities - make no mistake they were atrocities - are the foundation and basis for the conflict between Islam and the West to this day.

The Crusades were six, from the 11 th century to the 13th century. The last was, if I am not mistaken, in 1270. Later there was something else that wanted to be called a crusade, by the emperor Frederick II, but it wasn't.
The idea was to rescue the Saint Sepulcre from the Saracens, but really, what the kings wanted was to seize the riches of the territory and give an escape to the fighting impulses of the knights, who were always quarreling among themselves.
It was a battle between the Saracens and the Westerners, fighting for those lands.
Politics and money, as usual

The crusades featured armies of western european christians who would march toward the holy land in the middle east to reclaim it from the muslims. Most of the battles were actually between christians, as those whose lands were being marched over didn't always appreciate the invading armies. Many crusaders never made it as far as the middle east, and those that did found little success.
