Silken Oval Shaped Caccon under a Maple leaf?

What insect made this? It was white, and a little less than an inch long, and about 4 or 5 centimeters across. It was a round oval. Are there larvae inside? HOw many?

Sounds like a cocoon from a moth. It probably has 1 pupa (not larva) inside of it. This is a time for them to do that.
