I think this goes back to the age old topic of being a leader, a follower, or a onlooker.
It's all about mentality and how you see yourself and how you want to be. If your driven you work hard, go the extra mile and forge ahead even if you hit a wall you either scale it or simply go around it but don't let it slow you down. You over come ever obstacle that is thrown your way and are simply a person who dives into work and tackles problems as they arise or the person who analyzes everything then makes a plan but simply to the point you are always the person that people come to for advice, direction, to report to, or the bosses come to when they need a critical task completed or they have other bussiness to take care of because they know you won't fumble the ball and also don't have to hold your hand.
The follower simply put is part of the crowd whether it be because they lack the self-confidence or drive to be the one to stand in the spotlight. Afraid of being in the spot light and having all the attention thrust onto them and afraid they might fall or stumble and fumble the ball. Or they are simple there cause they have to be just putting in the minimum like comming in 8 hours for work 5 days a week, taking the 1 lunch or whatever then leaving just as the clock hits quitting time and pushing all your work that isn't done or in-process off to the side till the following day or week. Simply they are the average joe that are there who don't stand out or are trouble makers and are constantly being told what to do, what needs to be done and always has someone who is looking in on them.
The onlookers, well they are the people who see the crowd that point man or leader standing in the front. And is wondering where he fits in all this, he could be a outcast or a follower but is so lost and confused he's not quite sure where to go or what to do. Sometimes in a work place or even school it equates to being the new guy. Not knowing a single person and trying to figure out where your place is among your peers. And sometimes it's the people who have been there awhile but lost their focus and day dream who have little to no productivity and are constantly late in trouble etc. etc.

Russell has a sturdy quote in this: We would observe one ordinary function of philosophy. If somebody asks the question what's arithmetic, we are able to offer him a dictionary definition, enable us to assert the technological know-how of sort, for the sake of argument. so a ways because it is going that's an uncontroversial fact... Definitions would take transport of in certainly one of those any field the place a physique of specific expertise exists. yet philosophy can not be so defined. Any definition is debatable and already embodies a philosophic concepts-set. the only thank you to make certain what philosophy is, is to do philosophy. —Bertrand Russell, The know-how of the West

Depends on what you want in life, your personality type, and what, exactly you make happen.
First, there are a lot of people who do all of these, at different moments.
The people who make things happen often make a big ugly mess for others, and end up being hammered for it.
Also, there's who you actually are. Some people are more pushy than others. If you aren't that way, then you aren't that way.
It also sort of assumes EVERYONE could be a leader-type. That's true mayhem.
The pushy people are the hardest for everyone else to be around.
I just get annoyed at these sorts of things. They over-simplify, over-generalize, and are completely unrealistic.
I especially get annoyed with them when they seem to promote the goal of being a pushy, obnoxious, control-freak who tries to force everyone else to do what they want, are oblivious of reality, and end up causing most of the damage.

well yeah! Isn't that how the world goes around. By leting things happen for a reason. thats why we have great people like Leo DiCaprio:
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio speaks at a news conference called by Global Green USA in San Francisco, in this file photo from March 22, 2005. DiCaprio suffered a minor leg injury while filming in Mozambique, his publicist said Saturday.
Do you think this is a good oppinion?

Doesn’t like it.
People who wonder what happened are learning from there mistakes so next time they will get it right. They must have done something to make it happen or they wouldn’t have any thing to wonder about. People who watch things happen are again learning and strategizing so that when they get the chance they can make it happen. People who just do with out thinking it through are going to fail a lot before they are successful. Really successful people do a little of all three,
All this said it sort of reminds us of our philosophy.
Less thought more action equals satisfaction.

Or you can be the guy that watches it happen, pay the guy who wonders what happened to delegate to the guy that makes it happen.
It's a flawed philosophy as it is too simplistic, officially speaking the person who pushes a button on a factory floor 'makes it happen' and 'wonders what happened' at the same time while his boss 'watches it happen' and reaps the rewards. there is also the people who just react to what happened, they also tend to be pretty successful.
though your statement can be true, it does not explain variables , unsuccessful people who make things happen and successful people who wonder what happened.

To be successful in life, you need to be a person who happened.
But seriously, you make your own life to a certain degree. There are other factors. Success is measured in many different ways. Personally, I believe success can only be measured in one's own happiness. If you don't "make things happen" and are happy with yourself, then you can be successful in your own heart. Kinda blows your philosophy apart.
If you measure success from a societal standpoint, then I would tend to agree with you. You might be able to make your own life in society. You force your way up the food chain, that is if the established powers allow it.

In my life I have been at one point or another all three. I have made things happen, I have watched thing happen and I have been left wondering what happened. In this life if you don't experience all three at one point or another I don't think you can be successful.

It is not a phllosophy. More of a street quote, if you ask me. BUT you do not need a person who makes this happen, in order to be succesful. You need to BE that person.

I completely agree. This saying falls right in line with some of my other favorites:
My #1 fave is : "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." by Mahatma Ghandi. SO SIMPLE & TRUE
and a close 2nd: "We only have one life to live. If you risk nothing, you risk everything. "
Life isn't a thing that passively happens to us. It is what we create. I don't want to be just an extra in someone else's movie, I want to be the star of my own. Don't you?
