when my motor gets to 185 degrees it idles down low and just before it shuts off it backfires through carb?

its a small block 305 in a 84 camaro.just had everything rebuilt. but kept the old distributor cause nuthin was wrong but put new cap,rotorbutton, and coil in it but the motor runs fine while its cold but when it gets to right at 185 degrees(or warm) it idles down and just before it shuts off it back fires through the carb....... any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

but one guy answered talking about the intake valves sticking ..could this be because i havent changed my break in motor oil for my motor.? (it was just a thought)

Intake valves are probably sticking when it gets warm. It's fairly common when someone not qualified does a head job. Try some 5W20 Mobil 1. Thinner oil might get into the tight spots better.

Do you have a ecm carb on it ? If you do when is the last time you had it rebuilt ? Those carbs are a major pain in the you know what . I would start there first ex 82 ta owner 305
