"Very cold" and "mild" are somewhat mutually exclusive.

I did hear we were going to have a very cold one, guess maybe it will kill some germs in the air huh? But if it's going to be cold, I would like the snow to go along with it, other than the fact that my daughter started driving this summer and I am NOT looking forward to her first winter of driving.

The met office said that it will be a bit colder than last year but mild, so as they are ALWAYS wrong, i think we'll have a very cold winter

There will definitely be a drop in temperature! Mind you, it has been warm and sunny today. I'd stake a lot on it being wet too as I have a leaky roof at the moment. I think when they refer to winter as being 'mild', they mean that we won't have many, if any, blizzards and/or harsh icy days.

I heard on one channel that it was going to be bitterly cold but days later (Another channel) That it was going to mild, windy and lots of rain. I guess they can't make up their mind and we'll just need to wait and see what happens!

I heard the same....
I dread to hear the furnace start kicking on.
Except: I would rather have the cold than the extra hot temperatures we had this summer.

In Houston we don't have but about three days of REAL winter. So we never get too excited about it.
