I am trying to convert to wireless & the direction disk is telling me that the cable between the computer & modem are not connected. Where is the modem? How do I connect them. Obviously, keep the answer simple, not too techy. Feeling quite stupid, but - - - - Thank you!

I did receive a well written, intelligent answer, however my 5 year old, but quite up to date computer has never had the litle box modem. I am aware of those. I would suggest that my modem is built into the tower??

If you have an internal modem(one inside your comp) it is inside your computer box, and where you connect your telephone cable to your comp. If external :again it is where you connect your telephone line.

dont feel stupid lol

the modem is a small maybe 3 or 4 x 4 or 5 inch box that lights up green and orange or red.... if u can see the box and it lights green, tht means there's connection ,if its red, connection is bad, if u dnt see any lights its not on, if u dnt see the box at all, maybe u dnt have one.

but u cn get one from you r cable company (i use comcast) or from an electronic store wherever they sell computers liek best buy, pc richards, etc.

if u do have one and its lighting orange or none, then you should check the cords in the back of the box, and push them in, and follow them to the back of your computer tower (tall machine where u put in cds or whatever)

or

go to start... control panel.... network connections... repair

this is how i do mine, urs maybe be different but look out for network connections

hope i helped
