u can bathe a baby from day one.. i live in canada and they used to avoid bathing until the cord did fall off, but its not necessary.. they taught us how to bathe right in the hospital the day after my son was born.. just be careful of it, make sure u dont tug on it.. use a baby soap for their delicate skin, and check the temp of the water with ur elbow! and also, not all babies like the bath.. and some do..my son LOVES the bath, hope ur baby does too.. its so fun to bath him.. good luck..!

As soon as they are born...in fact the baby will usually be given his/her first bath in the hospital The only thing you have to be careful of is not to get the belly button too wet or submerged in water till the umbilical chord falls off.
Once that falls off then you can submerge the whole tummy underwater.
But you can bathe immdiatly as soon as the baby is born.

We bathed our son about 5 days after we brought him home and now we do it every 2-3 days. He's a month old. If the cord is still attached then don't get the area wet... make sure you use a tub with the hammock in it, if you have it. We got ours at Target and it works great!

You definitely want to bath him now.

As soon as her umbillical cord falls off is what I have heard. The scar tissue has to come off on its own before you can put her in water.. Until then you just use a cloth or sponge to give her a bath:)

I would sponge bathe your baby. As long as her cord has fallen off then you can give her a real bath. Just make it a calm environment and have all of your clothes, wipes, new diaper, new set of clothes, towel, etc. right there by you! Don't be surprised if he/she cries- my little girl loves water but every baby is different! Have fun and congratulations!

They used to be concerned with keeping the umbilical cord dry and to clean it using alcohol.... given this they advised that parents only give sponge baths til the cord falls off.... however, when I had my second child they told me that it isn't necessary to clean his cord and with my third they told me that in fact I don't have to avoid the bath at all... so I didn't and her cord fell off sooner than my other babies' so........ given that I would say by all means give your daughter her bath and lotion her up!!! (they love that especially if you do it in the evening just before bed when it's quiet....)

If her Umbilical Cord(the little stump on her belly button) is still attached you can give her a sponge bath. If her Umbilical Cord has fallen off her belly button then you can give her a regular bath.

why are you waiting? you don't have to actually put her in a bath but washing her in a baby tub or holding her over a sink is perfectly fine. They only thing you have to be careful for is not to get the ambilical cord wet so it can dry up and fall off.

as long as she has lost her cord stump you can give her a tub bath. If she still has her cord then keep sponge bathing her. Be prepared, some babies love baths and others hate them!!!
