Thanks for these great answers.

I like Avery, but I searched the meaning (which I think matters) and it's "Elf Ruler"!!! Okay, so maybe meanings arent' everything...

I am planning for Isaiah to be his middle name, that's what I'm hoping the long-a first name will go with.

THANKS!

I dont find "Jacob" being a particularly "looong" "a" sound name, even though it is pronounced "ay" and not "a" as in Jack. When you say the name, you tend to move quickly to the last syllable. I've always been rather partial to Alistaire (yes, it's a boy's name). And of course one of the Jackson sons was called "Germaine". Don't like any of the Jacksons but always liked that name. Much more extended "ayyy" sound.

If you really love the name Jacob, the meaning isn't the end of the world. The technical meaning is "supplanter", but it could just as easily be interpreted as "conqueror". Not as bad, huh? Here's some ideas for you:

I'm not really into names picking names because of meanings. When was the last time you told someone your name and they said "What's that mean?"

If you like a name--go with it! Jacob is a great name.

It's the person who makes the name, not the name that makes the person. Congrats :-)
