The Code of Hammurabi is generally dated to about 1780 BCE.

These laws of Babylon in its greatness are considered by many to be the foundation of laws for many cultures in the mid-east. For example they were likely a direct influence on what is referred to in the West as the Ten Commandments although the Codes are far more extensive. These codes cover more than simple acts or desired behavior and enter into the rights of contracts.

To a large extent they can be considered as foundational structure for cultural organizations.
