is there a difference when coaching someone at your own level and someone below your level in the company?

I personally don't think so, other than possibly not showing a subordinate some shortcuts that may not be company approved.

Regardless of your position, trainees need positive reinforcement as well as constructive criticism, both given in a respectful way. Beating up on the new guy, creating low self esteem issues, and otherwise making the job less enjoyable will only lead to higher turnover and less productivity.

Making yourself approachable, always open to questions, and a high degree of patience can really help to provide a secure environment that is conducive to team building.

They will have to respect your skill and knowledge of the tasks. Patience and clear communication are important. Make sure that they understand what you are telling them so that there is no misconceptions. Coaching in itself means teaching by encouragement and example.

own level....give them much repect they can look to you for advice in the future if you do. plus they have the same power as you so they can talk to your boss....be friendly

lower... also be respectful, but you can have more authority. give them more instruction but dont be too bossy.
