Chemical properties:-
K & Ca react readily with water or acids
There oxidation states are I & II respectively.
Physical they are soft pliable metals easily cut and need to be kept under oil to avoid reaction with atmospheric oxygen.
Low melting points and low densities. They belong to the 'S' group in the Periodic Table.

Sc, Ti V. Cr & Mn have a slower reaction with water or acids.
Their maximum oxidation states are III, IV, V,VI & VII respectively. Although they may exhibit lower oxidation states. As metals they may be left in the open atmosphere as they only slowly react with atmospheric oxygen. Physically they are 'Hard' metals that are not easily cut. They have high melting points and high densities. The belong to the 'D' group in the Periodic Table. They exhibit coloured ions and salts. They are used as industrial catalysts.
