17.5% of 44.50= 7.79, so add 7.79 to 44.50 =52.29

Method. Find 17 and a half % of £44.50. Then add the answer to £44.50.

£44.50 x 17.5 /100 = £7.7875 = £7.79

£44.50 + £7.79 = £52.29 - the answer.
