Yes, but put them inside a pillow case and knot it or into a mesh bag that you can draw closed. Loose strings will tangle around the agitator or get caught in the discharge, so take care not to put them in by themselves. If you're washing shoes in the washer, double the laces through the eyes so there is a minimum of laces lying loose.

I wash gym shoes with the laces in them. When I want to wash shoe laces alone, I put them in a mesh bag - something typically used to wash intimate appeal in the washing machine (instead of hand washing).

The best thing to do with small items like these is collect them all up together and tie them into a net bag before putting them into your washing machine. If you don't you stand the chance of having them end up in some odd place in your machine and a good possibility of damaging it.

Absolutely! But either leave them in the shoes or put them in a little mesh bag - otherwise they can wrap around the thingy and ruin your washing machine.

you can, but follow the advice (such as putting them in a mesh bag) so they don't wrap around the agitator (if you have that style of washer -- it's a nonproblem for frontloading machines)
i never bother washing shoelaces since replacements are readily available at low cost

Yes you can. Tie them together so the washing machine doesn't eat one.

Yes, but if they are loose they are apt to get wound around the spindle and cause problems. I would suggest you put them in a pillow case and tie the end up so they don't fall out.
