The movie is based on the book by Dan Brown which was a huge best seller for several years.
According to Dan Brown the book is a complete work of fiction. However, the story includes many real places and organizations. And while the story told in the movie may not be real, I suspect the theory revealed in the Da Vinci Code is close to what is believed by some.
Around the time the movie came out there were a couple documentaries that explored the Da Vinci Code. I can remember watching part of one, but I can't really remember what conclusions it was making.

The movie, and the book it is based on, are works of fiction.
However, I do believe that Jesus loved Mary Magdalene. And, in Jesus' time, it would have been very, very unusual for a Jewish man of 30 years old to not be married. I believe that Mary was the most beloved of the disciples of Jesus (yes, I believe she was a disciple). Whether or not they had a child, together - who can say?
Did you know that if you subsitute Mary Magdalene for the Beloved Disciple in the Gospel of John, the Gospel actually makes more sense (especially the Ressurection) from a chronological and character point of view?

He put symbols in his paintings which were known things in his time. However two guys wrote a book talking about it and then another guy copied them with his book that got famous. It became famous because a small group of people took it to heart that some super secret meanings were behind the paintings. However if you really look at it, there is nothing there that matters or is anything that anyone that has a small amount of study doesnt already know.

not real, hun. sorry! there was a show on the history channel that this guy really wanted to prove that the da vinci code idea was true, so he went out and researched every part. everytime he tried to prove something was true, he ended up proving otherwise..needless to say he was discouraged.
i liked the book too!

yes. read the book. also read Angels & Demons...it's by the same author. I usually don't read much anymore with the lack of time but I finished those two thick books in a week.
but in the mean time... wikipedia it.
leonardo da vinci is a renaissance man...one who holds many abilities. if his ideas for inventions carried on to our times today (like the helicopters and scuba diving gears) wouldn't it make you think that his creative abilities in art pertain as much truth and credibility?

Some of it is real, most of it is heavily based on myth and interpretation of art and symbology.
All in all it is a good movie for sure though.
