You probably don't have the requirements for the game. See if you video card and graphics card match with what it needs. My desperate housewives disc does the same thing. It totally bites.

I'm having the same sort of problem. It installs just fine, and then when I go to actually run it to play the loading visual comes up, disappears and nothing happens. I've tried disabling all firewalls and virus protection, and that has nothing to do with it.

However, I have found that one of the listed requirements is windows service pack 5, and I currently have service pack 2. Is that really necessary? It's going to take hours to download, and I'd rather not have a newer service pack unless I'm going to need it to run this game.

Everything else I've got fits the requirements, not to mention that I tried running this on 4 different computers, and had the same problem (the others were of different caliber, but all had either pack 1 or 2 installed).

Most unusal for XP. Works fine on mine and I've had it long before I bought a Dell XPS Gen4. Last resort...uninstall the game. Check Windows Explorer for any files under Microsoft (be careful what you delete...look only for AOE II files). In addition...go to the Start menu and run "Age of Empires" in the Search box. Delete those files if they show up. Now re-install. Install AOE II first and then before you install the expansion pack try running the game. If it works...add the expansion pack.

If all else fails...contact Microsoft.

Windows XP is not listed on the system requirements list.
Here it is....
Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 operating system.

Your windows is newer than what the game was designed for.
There may be a workaround for this, but I do not know of one. sorry.

You know what? Theres lots of reasons why it wont work, if u have a black screen it might be that ur pc's too slow but if you wanna be like me just go 2 download.com and type in ur game, find it and click on this button that says if ur pc is compatible wit it and itll tell u wat u need 2 upgrade
