Yma Sumac (a 40s pop singer) had an OFFICIAL and tested minimum of a 4 octave range publicist would bump it up to 5 ... she was classically trained by Grace Moore

i have to say the same as glinzek. people are you crazy, 7 - 9 octaves. not even 5 octaves is possible.
the singer with the highest range i know of was the German Ivan Rebroff (he wasn't Russian). in his prime time he had a range of 4 and a half octaves and that was amazing.
