because thats the only role he can play. and guess what, all of us action movie fans will watch whether its the same stevan seagal whether hes on a plane, on a train, in a submarine, on a boat, in a cave, in the city, in the boondocks, in the forest, coming out of comatose, getting revenge, etc.

The simple answer is because someone keeps paying him to do so. And they keep paying him to do so because people keep paying to see the movies. Or at least that was the answer when he was still making movies.

same thing with jean claude van damme. they are one-dimensional. no one would ever believe them if they did a different role, like in a comedy or a drama.
they're known just as fighters... they're type-cast.
