Remember when, you bet I do. I remember buying a coke for 5 cents, then returning the bottle and getting 2 cents back which I used to get two pieces of bubble gum. We never pined the cork on our shirts, we used them to make things. and play games with. No running water or gas, no air conditioning. or heating, no inside restroom, nore TV or phone. Coal oil lamps, wood stoves and fireplaces. Chicken was a special treat for sunday dinner. Beans, fryed potatoes, cornbread or biscuits was the basic meals.A loof of bread at the store was 5 cents Yes I remember when, and I really like the country song by Allen Jackson,"Remember When"

Oh my. I hadn't remembered this until you said so, but yes I do remember now. And then sometimes they would be printed underneath when they had contests running. I can remember walking at the side of the highway picking up bottle caps (as well as discarded bottles). The caps I would turn over to my older brothers. The bottles I would cash in and use the money for my own "treats".

Socko;
they were not corks as in wine bottle corks, but metal crimped caps on bottles (as on lager bottles now). Inside to make them leak-proof, was a layer of cork. you pulled the cork part out, placed the metal cap on the outside of clothes, and on the inside, pushed the cork piece back into the metal cap. This trapped the clothing between the cork and metal, the "badge" stayed on!

I am old but not that old. Maybe I am just senile. The only corks I know are wine corks and what a pain they are to get out!
Why did you pin the cork to your shirt?

Yes indeed. you had to carefully peel the cork out from the cap,then you held the cap at the front of your shirt,then pressed the cork into it from the back side & presto!!! a badge.

I remember the corks, but I don't recall pinning them on my clothes.

I had forgotten about that cork, until you mentioned it. We'd carefully peal them out, but I can't remember what we did with them. I don't remember putting them on our clothes.

My husband said that his grandmother would do that. He said that he had those "pins" all over his shirt! He loved the RC pins since his initials are RC.

Sure do! Those were the good old days. I used to stick them all over the place. Everything tasted better then too.
