I am still stunned as I watched from the comfort of my home the people up on roofs, watching basically death happen while I sat there helpless. How can Bush still be serving when he allowed that tragedy to occur. We may be a dull lot over here in Canada, but at least we dont have that man leading us. I feel so bad for those that lost it all.

Janice, your comment is what is really really sadly wrong with America. You have moved on. Why put your savings into your fellow man that are left homeless destitute. And the poor black people should have known shouldnt they have? And gee I hope those people in California do not get any sympathy, they knew they were built on shaky ground didnt they. No sympathy there right? That is disgusting. This is why America is in trouble. The poor stay poor and the rich and stable hide their head and say everyone for themselves! That is totally disgusting. I hope there is a God as I feel there are alot of people that have alot to explain to him. That was disgusting. why not send your blurb out to America as a Christmas message to all? No wonder there are horrible problems with racism in your country. Very sick

Janice I read your other blurb where you thought an american soldier shouldnt be punished for killing an innocent Iraqi civilian. You attitude is all fair in love and war right. Maybe if the war was in America and they killed a member of your family you would think alot differently. Really disgusting.

Brad M what did you expect the poor people to do and where would they go?Did anyone expect that kind of disaster, I am sure if you ask them I am sure they didnt expect that kind of horror. You cannot blame people if they suffer through a disaster you cannot expect them to prepare. That would mean there should be no help given to those that live where tornadoes often happen, or live in homes where there are likely earthquakes. For that matter people that live on the shore like where there could be disaster as well. When you are poor and oppressed you tend to not quite know how to handle life, they would suffer from that syndrome anyways if they are poor. I have every right to say what I want about Bush he is affecting the entire world right now so too bad for you if I speak my mind.

Bush has no one of importance in New Orleans, thus the idiot can afford to let some of his population die. He was too busy drilling oil in Iraq to save the hurricane victims. Too bad a tornado won't sweep away his ranches in Texas, so he'd get the picture. But that's generally the attitude of most people in government. Their families are all in safe havens while they send out others' children into war for oil and let the rest die from flooding, etc. due to hurricanes.

If we American's treat our poor so bad and are nothing but a bunch of racist as you very often say, why don't you take some of our poor and minoities to Canada? Those people knew for years and years that this can happen. They voted down tax bonds with federal matching money year after years to fix those levies. This is what happens to a community where you have more people on welfare than are working and paying taxes. The government failed these people from the local authorities right up to the top. But the initial responsibility was their's to protect themselves. They didn't do it. They knew days if not a week in advance it was coming. They stayed. The Sunday after that happened I wrote a very healthy check for a Katrina Victims fund at our church (by the way Blue Lady, my minister is a black lady) only to see the black leadership of this country openly say that white america had turned it's back on New Orleans. I don't remember writing on that check any specific type people that the money was to be used for. I will never donate to another disaster fund, never. It is very tragic and regretful that those people died, especially the young who never had a chance to vote for improvements to protect their city. If you have read enough of my answers, you know that I completely disapprove of President Bush, but I'm not going to set here and let someone from outside, a foreigner of the United States blame him for something he had no control over. I contend and firmly believe that people who cry racism every damn time you turn around are in fact the real racist because they keep the $hit going.

look, did you be attentive to that the typhoon became going to do what it did? No..... no person did. And Bush in case you examine greater applicable actual instructed the state of Louisana to set a state of emergency. yet needless to say you probably did no longer seize that did you. And besides as blaming Bush on each and every of the human beings caught in l. a., the place became THE damn GOVERNER? he or she became the only to blame for the calls that would desire to have been made. And the people who have been caught down there would desire to have been evacuated by way of the buses that have been shipped north. however the GOVERNER did no longer enable that to ensue. The GOVERNER would desire to have enforced the essential evacuation while they first found out with regard to the typhoon. in spite of the undeniable fact that it comes returned to the easy fact that definite, we've been warned, yet who might have concept?

It's old news, we've moved on. I think when it all happened, the private citizen was asked to shell out for the disaster, to the point of satuation. Why would some one in Idaho want to put his vacation savings in to the restoration of New Orleans? I guess a lot of us, have since seen that some of this loss of life and property, could have been prevented, by the citizens of New Orleans. They knew they lived in a dangerous area. They already knew the levys were not going to withstand a lot of pressure. When you live on the gulf shore, you have to expect hurricanes! The casinos didn't have a problem getting back up and running. Money and connections are the key. Many of the people driven out were poor blacks...I think as time went on, and it was discovered that many of these people lived in poverty and on welfare, interest in handing them money and a new house, got a little touchy.
Blue Lady, you wanted opinions. I didn't say this was strictly my opinion. You asked a general "why", I gave a general answer. Just curious, how much have you done for the people of Katrina?
My son is serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was also in the National Guard, during Katrina(some of who were there to help during Katrina). You are judging me unfairly. Why ask a question as you did, if you are only looking for the answers that make you happy? I'm done with this, I shouldn't have to defend myself.

Yes, I am! I have only visited New Orleans, but I certainly think that city should be rebuilt. I have read that the reason the sewer system hasn't been fixed is the city wants to upgrade the whole system but the government will not give them the money promised unless it is restored like it was, ridiculous! I also have read that the St. Charles trolley is still not operational after two years because there is no electricity. Since the day it happened, it has bees shameless and I am embarrassed to be an America when this subject comes up.

No. Given how wonderfully government screws up everything else they do, at great expense to all of us, why do you think this would be any different. What kind of person trusts something as important as their life and property to the government anyway!!!! Why do you expect the government to respond in the first place? Where in our Constitution is the federal government given the responsibility or even authority to respond to federal disasters? I know all about FEMA, but under what authority do they exist?

You misunderstand American government. Mr. Bush was not responsible for the initial response. It's a local and state responsibility. Governor Barbour in MS acted swiftly and got a decent response. Governer Blanco and more particularly Mayor Nagin of New Orleans didn't (except that Nagin evacuated and left his constituency to die), so they didn't. As a matter of fact, the federal response was delayed additionally after they'd specifically asked Mrs. Blanco to begin the process.

Did you read the USA Today this morning. Most of the federal funds sent to NOLA have been stolen or wasted. A good portion of the city officers are being charged with stealing funds. Maybe Iraq isn't so bad after all!

There's so much finger pointing. The federal government waited for the state to act, the state waited for word from the mayor ( Nagin) who was busy waiting for the governor ... and on and on it goes. Not one single person in authority made a decent decision... and they still aren't. That's what is so amazing ! The only person who seems to be doing something is Brad Pitt, who is financing rebuilding.

I can believe it. They have another agenda.
JANICE, you have some nerve chic! Many of those people didn't know the levies weren't going to hold. The local government and federal gov' t is to blame, not the people.
I'd like to see Idaho dealt a natural disaster, we'll see if your argument remains the same.
