can hear a lighter clinking around in the dryer-- when it gets hot enough could that lighter explode?

No you can not cause it to spark because of the humidity
of the clothes and Steam in the Dryer
but the lighter is no good anymore you ruined the wick
and most likely dried up the fluid

Don't know about other brands, but I have washed and dried many, many bic lighters and have never had one explode. They have always still worked too. If they don't explode sitting in the car in the heat of summer when it gets over 100 then I don't think the dryer is much of a problem!

If it gets hot enough.. But your dryer won't get that hot
