Y intecept means that it's x value is 0. So just plug in 0

y=2 (0-5)^2 + 6 = 2 (-5)^2 + 6 = 2 * 25 + 6 = 56

y intercept in plain english is plug in 0 for x.

so when x is 0 we have:

y= 2(0-5)^2 + 6
y=6

A short cut to these kind of problems is to think of the number term by itself as the y intercept.
So just by looking you could have said +6

set y=0, so
2(x-5)2+6=0
assuming that the twos are in the right spot,
4(x-5)+6=0
4x-20+6=0
4x=20-6
4x=14
x=14/4

Hope this helps!
