My three month old eats 6-8 ounces every three hours, it seems to be alot to me, and was wondering if it was normal. She already eats rice cereal which doesnt seem to fill her up and now we were told to start her on oatmeal. She still wakes up every three hours at night for food and I have noticed that she is gaining alot more weight from eating so much so often. (she is bottle fed). Does anyone have any suggestions to keep her full longer?

My son is 12 wks and eats 5 or 6 oz every 2 hrs ! More than your baby ! I'm not worried tho because he has grown over 5 inches so he is using most of it to maintain his rapid growth What doctor told you to feed her cereal so young ? It is now recognized that starting young babies on solids is way too hard on their GI tract, can cause food allergies or intolerance, etc. For the first 6 mos, the AAP reccomends formula or breastmilk only. Call your local WIC office and speak to one of the nurses there about this if you don't believe me on it. My son is a pretty hearty eater and he is big for his age but I have a 4 yr old who was the same way. He was a pretty chunky baby but he is long and lean now so don't worry about her weight now. What she eats as an infant is not a precursor to obesity. Those bad habits are learned later on. Babies grow rapidly & need more calories to sustain the rate of growth.Just think how much she has grown in 3 mos and it takes alot to keep that up nutritionally. Maybe she is eating what she needs because she is growing faster than some babies. Talk to her doctor ( not the same one who suggested the cereal) about supplementing with a few oz of water a day to satiate her.Another thing alot of first time moms do is assume their baby is hungry when they may not be. A baby doesn't know the difference between hunger pangs and being overfed, it just feels uncomfortable. They even root and gnaw on their hands when they have been overfed. Have you tried a pacifier ? Babies are soothed by the sucking reflex and maybe she needs to suck on a pacifier for a bit after her bottle. Hope something helps.

Truthfully I can't tell you an answer because ppl say my 4 month eats too much. He usually eats a full 6oz every 2 hours and i started him on rice and oatmeal. The other day i gave him pees and he ate the whole jar. he still wakes up about 3 times a night. But he seems more like a football player he is not chunky just bigger and longer than most 9month olds. If you get a good answer let me know. But i say if they are hungry feed them. baby's cant over eat yet. if they do it comes right back up. so if shes keeping it down shes good.

I fed my infants rice cereal at 2 months previous - all 3 of them. they are completely superb. healthful 13, 11 and six 365 days olds. if your infant is doing nicely then do not worry approximately what others say. I certainly have a company thought that mom is familiar with superb, however while you're first time mom, its a organic instinct that consists of maximum! In all actuality your infant would not could have rice cereal yet, even nevertheless it wont harm your infant the two. My sisters infant had reflux and the only way she could shop her formulation down replaced into to thicken it up with rice cereal so she had it from 2 weeks previous. - medical doctors orders. She is superb now and a captivating dancer - age 17.

Hello,
I have heard of these from a lot of young parents. But sometimes, it could be a health problem. Some baby's protein level are lower and they need constant food. But then there are some, who are always hungry and want to eat. I would consult a Pediatrician. And check her over. Sometimes it could be some kind of a gland problem perhaps over function or under function. I am not a medical doctor. I am only Social Worker. But have heard of such cases. My aunt who was a head nurse over new born babies, would give all the baby's a bottle of fennel tea before bed time. It soothes them and gives them the feeling of being full. I would ask the Pediatrician before doing it. but tea is alwas recommendable

Frankly, my pediatrician told us to feed my 7 week old rice cereal b/c he's growing like a weed and I am not worried even though he's showing signs of weight gain and is 5 pounds heavier already than he was born at (12.4 pounds now, born weighing 7.4)

I just believe that my prediction that he's going to play in the NFL is more likely to be validated.

I too had a hungry little boy. I used to give him a special bed time bottle with a large hole nipple that had formula, cereal, bananas and sometimes baby pudding in it. He at least slept longer thru the night. He was never a really fat baby and was very active so I guess he was burning up all the calories.

try adding water to the milk that will make the feeds go further and also save u a bit onf money aswell, also try taking the next step up in powder and then she will be fuller and have less feeds. maybe also befor she goes down for her last meal of the night wen u wana go bed give her some of her oats or rice.

wow, who said to feed the baby rice cereal at 3 months? and now oatmeal? Your baby is eating fine, if he/she is eating 6-8oz every 3hours. Its the cereal that concerns me, I think it is being given way to early. She's growing she is going to eat alot more. But try offering a bottle water between meals.
