Has anyone done this successfully (in place of using a shared network connection)? Thanks.

If the printer has two types of connections: USB and parallel, you can simply connect one computer with USB and the other computer with the parallel cable.

I think A/B switches are outdated. I have never heard of a USB A/B switch.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to assume this will work...I tried it with a Canon all-in-one printer, and the USB device was "not recognized" when going through an A/B switch (and yes, USB A/B switches definitely do exist!). Canon later told me that these printers do NOT work through an A/B switch and require a constant connection, hence the question asked about experiences with the specific HP 6310 printer (by my friend). He is only interested in actual results, not theoretical "shoulds!" Anyone have any real experience in trying this with the HP 6310? Thanks.

I haven't tried, but whichever computer is selected on your switch, you should be able to print normally (assuming your switch works.) Just don't switch computers while printing :)
