Depends on how much money. If, say, it was $250,000,000, then it's safe to assume that whoever lost it, would have the means to find it, and get it back from me, and more than likely, use my skin as a shamy for their car.

If it's substantially less, I would look at all the bills to check to see if the bills are in sequence. If they are, there's a good chance that they are marked, meaning that their circulation is being monitored by someone (like a government), and that I would wind up in jail.

If they are loose bills, out of sequence, I may be tempted to keep it, take it to someone that is in the money laundering business, and sell it to them for less than their face value for money that's been "washed". This is assuming I can conceal such a large amount of money in a bank in the Caymen Islands or Switzerland.

All this being said, it's nearly impossible to conceal that much money and you are very likely going to get caught with it. The best thing to do is to go to the authorities and let them know. You may get a reward for having found it.

Pick up the movie "A Simple Plan", which is based on the true story of some guys that found a ton of money in the middle of nowhere. It ruined all of their lives btw.

To prevent being sued, a person has to prove they tried to find the owner before keeping something. I would post ads in the paper and online, then if no one claimed it, I'd keep it.

The ad would say the location and time the item was found, but of course I wouldn't say what it was or that there was money in it.

I would definitely try to find the owner. That being said, however, a suitcase full of money would probably belong to a criminal....so perhaps simply turning it into the police would be the best decision.

Depends, how much money? A suitcase full of pennies I would leave. It would be heavy as crap. However if it were a suitcase of Benjamins I would take some and put them between 2 slices of bread and make a money sandwich which i would eat. I would then run off with the suitcase.

i tell the truth in the same order
i will check for any clue for the owner to gain 10% of the money in real honest way
then if i didn`t i will leave a piece of papers and on the news papres about some thing lost and found and mention where did i get it in the local news papers
then after weeks if no one get to call me or fine me
i think i`m gonna keep the money
and in this case i`ll give 10% to the poors and the needy person

I think if it really came down to it I would try to find the owner. I dont think I would put full 100% effort into it but I would try. If I couldnt find the owner then I would def keep it.

I'd stare at it for awhile, then I'd cry, and then I would turn the suitcase into the Police Dept. making sure that I get a signed receipt from them before leaving. The money may belong to someone who really needs it or it could be counterfeit waiting for someone to come along, spend it and take the rap for making it.

i'd return it to the owner. yeah it is very tempting to get a little cash but then it would be wrong, and besides if i were in his shoes, i'd want my money returned in full, then i'd give a certain portion of it as his reward for his honesty. i hope the owner would give me a tip. yeah i know. i have hidden motives, but then, im only human and i sure need some money

I would try to find out who owns it, I'm sure there would be a reward for such a find.

The reason I would find the owner...is because, you never know....this could be a persons whole life savings in a bag...or an elderly retirement fund.

My gut tells me it's the right thing to do.
