Light year, Astronomical Unit, Kilometer or Mile?
I know that a mile beats out a kilometer, but the LY vs the AU is what's throwing me off. Please help and thank you.

The light year is the largest unit of measurement you listed.
A light year is the distance light travels in a year.
An astronomical unit is equivelent to the Earth's distance from the Sun on average, or 93 million miles, approximately 8 light minutes.
Miles and kilometers you know.

Light Year is the largest value and is the distance travelled by light in 1 year. An AU is the mean distance between the Sun and Earth and is covered by light in about 9 minutes.

By far, the light year is the largest.
A light year is the distance one beam of light travels in one year. Light travels at approximately 186,000 miles per second.
186,000 X 60 seconds [1 minute] X 60 minutes [1 hour] X 24 hours [1 day] X 365.25 [1 year] = the distance that one single beam of light travels in one year.
I once saw a demonstration of what a nano-second is: Its a beam of light approximately 1 foot long. I believe a nano-second was one billionth of a second.
The ua is the distance the earth travels around the sun in one year. It is dwarfed by the light year.
From largest to smallest: LY, ua, kilometer, mile..
Thanks for asking. I enjoyed taking the time to answer.
