Depo doesn't work for everyone. Some women will have many side effects (weight gain, acne, hair loss, bleeding, headaches, etc) while others will have little to none. Like with b/c pills, it's the same.
Everyone's organism, body is different, and doesn't react the same as everyone else. So, what might not work for you, might just work for the next person.
It's pretty much, trial & error.
If the side effects you're suffering are something you are not comfortable with, contact your doctor and discuss other options.

I am currently on the Depo shot. This is the second time in my life I have been on it. I LOVE DEPO!!!! I haven't had any side effects. No weight gain, no mood swings..nothing!!! And I definitely haven't gotten pregnant on it. Everyone is different though. I had drastic weight loss on the pill so Depo works for me.

My doctor suggested depo. Didn't tell me anything about it regarding side affects, so I figured "I was safe"... I have regretted not researching this horrible drug ever since... Not a lot of people received a pamphlet about this drug and not a lot of people know that there are class action lawsuits against the makers of depo provera.
My four years were horrible. I dealt with it that long because I thought my experience was only because of me. Then I read up and saw the site in my source, and after a talk with my fiance I got off this poison.
Mood swings, weight gain, loss of libido, etc.
I hated it.
I am on Kariva (pill) and I'm so much happier and side affect free.
TOO many of us women suffer horrible side affects, I'm appalled its still being administered.

I was on the depo shot for about 2 years. I had horrible mood swings, I gained weight, and I had headaches for a few days after my injection. After I got off of it, it took 6 months for my period to come back, then after that for almost another two years I had a VERY irregular period.

My personal experience was HORRIBLE. Depo provera has a known LINK to PCOS. I have pcos and endometriosis and strongly believe depo is at the very least partly responsible. I honestly believe this drug should be taken off the market.

depo worked great for me, but the papers they give you entail many MANY possible side affects, (oh by the way they warned of bone loss and to take a multi vitamin since 1999 it was always in the papers you get with the shot. always read the paperwork when you go on new medication) my only problem was slight weight gain...5 lbs or so. my periods even stopped which was good cause with the cramps and moodswings from pms I was very hard to deal with.
