Nobody's keeping those one-hit wonders country.
This list could get really touchy with the crossovers and the "what about that song" possibilities. For example, I WON'T list Billy Ray Cyrus since his whole Some Gave All album was really good....but I wish they'd have put that ONE song on the end (his Greatest Hits disc producer did).
Another artist whom I consider a two-hit wonder to be excluded here is country star Johnny Paycheck (Take This Job and Shove It, Colorado Kool-Aid).
And now, the particulars:
Don Cox - Honey Don't Pay The Ransom (I Escaped)
Jeannie C. Riley - Harper Valley PTA
Billy Yates - Flowers
Bruce Hauser/Sawmill Creek Band - Barely Gettin' There, Barely Gettin' By
Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight (borderline country though)
Doug McClure - Bernard The Mule
Deborah Allen - Baby I Lied
Amazing Rhythm Aces - Third Rate Romance (original version)
Leon Everette - Hurricane
Andy Badale - Nashville Beer Garden
Becky Hobbs - Jones On The Jukebox
Buffalo Club - If She Doesn't Love You
Pinmonkey - Barbed Wire and Roses
Lucinda Williams - Passionate Kisses (before Mary Chapin-Carpenter's version)
Anthony Smith - If That Ain't Country
B.W. Stevenson - My Maria (WAY before Brooks & Dunn!)
Yankee Grey - All Things Considered
Ty England - Should've Asked Her Faster
Pirates Of The Mississippi - Feed Jake
Jessi Colter - I'm Not Lisa
Chad Brock - Yes!
Western Flyer - What Do I Do With M-E?
Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life
Gary Chapman - Everyday Man
Sammi Smith - Help Me Make It Through The Night
Kieran Kane - You're The Best
Danny O'Keefe - Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues
Tommy Shane Steiner - What If She's An Angel
Russell Smith - I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight
Commander Cody and his Lost Airmen - Hot Rod Lincoln
Jennifer Hanson - Beautiful Goodbye
Ray Kennedy - What A Way To Go
Jeannie Pruett - Satin Sheets
Buzz Cason - White Knight
Carlene Carter - I Fell In Love
Pake McEntire (Reba's brother) - Every Night
Karen Brooks (w/T.G. Sheppard) - Faking Love
Erich Weissberg/Steve Mandel - Duelling Banjos
Anita Cochran (w/Steve Wariner) - What If I Said
Joe Dolce - Shaddap You Face (a reach....)
Billy Swan - I Can Help
John & Audrey Wiggins - Has Anybody Seen Amy?
Terri Gibbs - Somebody's Knockin'
Elmo & Patsy - Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
Cal Smith - Country Bumpkin
Southern Pacific - Midnight Highway
Note to Okiefan, who despite our common love for country music somehow never puts me on friend's list: I went back and did legitimate research without looking at other people's lists..the first batch I did on my own. I was a country broadcaster through the 80's and you'll get some obscure ones there. Any that match the other's lists is not by stealing. You know me better than that!! Is there a reason I can't put an hour into a great question??
Please E-mail me, Okie....Dodge

I love Anthony Smith.
There's a few Australian country artists that like his songs too.
