If you want to re-use parts from your 305 you need a '86-up one piece main 350 block and new pistons at the very least. The 305 has a 3.736" bore, but the same stroke as a 350 at 3.48". There is no way to bore a 305 block to 4.00", the std. bore for a 350. You could technically re-use your 305 crankshaft and rods as far as the short block goes, but as mentioned, if you try to re-use much of the 305 you'll be stuck with the 305 heads, which do not flow well at all. It would be better to just replace the 305 with a complete 350 long block.

My advice is if you want to be unique stay away from a 350 I had a s-10 I was going to put a 350 in but if you want something that will perform better than your 305 but still is not a dime a dozen get hooked up with a 327 you can tweek it to put out 400hp for under $3000 I did in my lil truck.

Actually, I would get a long block 350. Just swap your TPI intake over to it. 305 heads dont flow for crap, get a nice set of stock 350 heads if you're just wanting a daily driver, or if you're lookin for some speed, find a set of vortec truck heads off a 96-98 chevy, spend the $150 or so on a 4bbl intake to work with those heads, and slap a 650 edelbrock or holley carb on it.

you need a 350, a 305 cant be built to a 350, not enough cylinder wall there to bore it big enough.

i think you would be better off if you can buy a 350 crate motor for the cost of what you want to do to your 305 with a far better result.

A short block.
It's cheaper than rebuilding yours.
Just swap the heads, distributor, water pump, etc.
