I'm looking for a place to raise my new family. Maybe you could help us?

We're looking for a place you'd find:
-Liberals, democrats
-Clean air
-Nice weather (not too humid, hot or cold- moderate?)
-Chinese or Asian communities
-Reasonable house prices
-Safe environment (low crime)

We recently left our native Jersey for Pennsyltucky due to home prices being way too high. But where we've settled in PA isn't very tolerant or liberal. We like it here okay, but now that we have a baby, we're looking for a better fit.

Please list places you've been that fit our list along with how long you were there, how recently and what you liked best. Thanks in advance, guys.

** Everyone tells me Cali, but it's so expensive there. If you suggest CA, please include specific towns or developments that are more reasonably priced and fit the above criteria. Thanks again!! I really appreciate the input.

I would say Burlington, Vermont fits alot of the things you are looking for except the weather & maybe the housing prices. Other than that it is a pretty liberal place with clean air (they are very environmentally conscious), a very low crime place (usually less than 15 murders for the entire state a year & most murders are related to domestic issues). The education system is pretty good esp. if you stick with the Burlington area (Essex, Colchester, S. Burlington, Charlotte, Shelburne). I would say the largest minority in Vermont is asian, followed closely by african american). It doesn't have a large minority population but vermont seems to be good at accepting all people into their communities.

Okay Cal is very expensive, I lived in SD for year and wow you won't believe how much your water or gas bill is. Cal is however a WONDERFUL place to live. If you are looking for something more affordable there you need to look at North Cal like around Oxnard, think way north. You might also want to check out Oregon. First there is a wonderful small town called Florence, wonderful there are all kinds of cultures there, good place to raise kids, plenty of nice schools, and well just a safe little town. The housing is not too bad, I live in the midwest which has some of the cheapest housing cost in the US and it was only going to be like $5,000 more for my same house. Florence is located about 45 min from Eugene OR, this place is up and coming. Great young city, tons of different cultures, good jobs and they are builiding new schools. Again you can get some nice house here for your money. Portland is also near, I have to say that I enjoy going there, wonderful place, again it is a growing city yet is still has that small town feel! OR for the most part is VERY liberal, just as an example they are the only state to allow you to pick the right to die. I know not a great example but, I see very few other states taking on and passing an issue like that! I did notice that in certain places it looked like the hippies from back in the day had come here to retire, and well hey you cannot go wrong with that! I myself am very Liberal and well the whole state of OR just fits me well. I hope to move there someday!

Another place that might surprise you is check out St. Augustine FL. Yep, I know sounds funny but, 30min south of Jacksonville, still a small town rich in history! This is the oldest city in the US, and well it is a melting pot for all! We love it here, the people are just awesome. They built 5 new elementry schools this year a lone and hey you can get a house close to the beach for $150,000 not bad! Housing and bills are very nice here and pretty low. I was realy surprised I always thought that FL was expensive!! Check out their city websites it has all the stats you will need. Very low crime just like OR. There are also several great things that kids get to grow up with around here. There is always some type of community event going on, there are tons of reenactors running around, and they have tons of cool things to see and do. We go down there every year but, we have friends that live there and own a business there and we have looked into moving there. This place is a great choice.

Well I hope this helps you, good luck on your move!!!!
