How would writing a letter keep you from being fired?
(Honestly curious). Without more of a background story its kinda hard to give any decent advice.

Write down what you want to say. Then read it over, checking for grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. Let it sit. Then come back and read it again.

Keep your sentence structure simple. Several short sentences are better than a paragraph of run on, make no sense, single sentence.

But if you lied to your employer, I don't think a letter is going to help keep you from being fired.
