i hav a small garden and wood like a drive is there a law on the size of drive and how close a car can be to the house

Not normally, although you need to check whether there are any restrictive covenants on the land. (You can do this by checking your house details on the Land Registry website). The main problem you may encounter is getting your local authority to install a crossover. It's illegal to cross the pavement without one.

i believe there are policies about drives, you need to contact your local authority, i.e council about planning permission
they will give you all the details you require
