Does the slowness happen when you disconnect one or the other computer?

Try to isolate the problem, start by turning everything off. Turn back on in the following order -

1. modem
2. router
3. original PC.

Does the original PC run as quickly as you think it should?
If yes,

Turn original PC off and turn on new PC, does it run as fast as your think it should.

Does the performance problem only happen when both are connected?

Loads of things, from configuration settings to cable problems could cause this type of problem.

"Freezing" is always a tough thing to diagnose because people mean so many things when they say it.

Here are a couple of things to check.....

1 -- Make sure every phone, fax, etc, everything except the DSL modem, has a DSL FILTER between it and the phone jack it's plugged in to.

2 -- To help isolate the problem, run some speed tests from http://dslreports.com both using the router and with the computer hooked straight up to the DSL with no router. See if there are appreciable differences.

3 -- Double-check the network settings on the router, because many DSL modems aren't really set up out of the box to be routed. They need to be put into 'bridge mode' first and then you will need to set up the PPPoE authentication on the router. Check that out with a Google search or something.

4 -- When you're experiencing the problem, do CTL +ALT + DEL on the affected computer and take a look at the Task Manager's Performance and Processes tabs to see if a program on the computer itself is slowing it down.

Hi there,
I had problems with Verizon on my computer, it was sooooo slow. I took it off and have Aol now.
We have a link-sys router and the modem from Verizon. But we use Aol to sign on.
This helped a lot.
Also, your computers sound like they need more memory added to them. You can purchase memory online or at Best Buy, etc.
You can also go online and get help for your problem. Go under Verizon and help section or they also, have an online help where you can talk to them via internet for your problems.
I do hope this helps you.
Good Luck !!
