I really love that movie, but i've had problems trying to understand why does the coronel kisses Lester. Is he making a big effort to understand his son? Is he really gay himself and have trouble admitting it? What do you think?

Gay himself and having trouble admitting it, which is why he's so hard on his son.

The Colonel is really gay and is supressing it. Thats why he acts all anti gay and stuff. Also his son isnt gay. So I guess he finally cracked and let his true self come out. You realize that he likes Lester by when he watched the video tape of him lifting weights. his face is like in a trance. And when he thought he saw his son going down on the man he likes he snapped. One because he thought his son was like him and two his son was doing the guy he liked so he thought that Lester is gay and that he would accept him and maybe he thought they could be lovers. He got ashamed of himself and thats why he killed Lester and I think he killed himself too, I forgot. Poor guy his wife was mentally ill also.

He was gay, he thought there was something wrong with him, he couldn't accept himself, and that's why he was constantly talking about how horrible gay people are. He thought Lester was gay, he finally came out, in his own way, by trying to kiss him; it turned out Lester wasn't gay, but then he killed him because Lester knew that he was gay, and he didn't want anyone to know.

Him being a closet homosexual makes the most sense to me. It would explain his fear and hatred at the possibility of his son being gay. He also must see Lester as attractive, I mean I wouldnt kiss a guy i didnt think was cute. If I were gay

Plus did you see how his wife acted? She was so emotionless and flacid....She wasn't getting it put to her every night.

I think the character was an in the closet homosexual. I think he misunderstood Lester and then kissed him. When Lester rejected his advances, I think it pushed him over the edge and in order to keep Lester from telling, he shot him.

I think it's a mixture of him being gay and didn't want to admite it and just trying to feel love. I'm not sure what the exact answer is.

He has gay emotions inside him which he's thoroughly ashamed of, thats why he acts in such a homophobic manner- to deny it to himself. It's quite common these days, most homophobes feel threatened by gay people.
