Assuming you mean Mexican pesos:
Ron S. has it right as far as he goes. In addition to that, the old pesos cannot be exchanged at most banks in Mexico (and banks / currency exchanges in the US won't buy them), but have to be taken to a bank designated as a 'Centro de Canje' by the Banco de Mexico.
Here is the Banco de Mexico web web page where you can access the list of banks where you can exchange old and obsolete banknotes:
http://www.banxico.gob.mx/billetesymonedas/servicios/canjedepiezas/ubicacionCentrosCanje/UbicacionCentrosCanje.html
If you mean Argentina pesos:
Argentina had a period of very high inflation througout the 1980s and 1990s. The highest denomination banknote issued was a 1,000,000 peso note. Due to that high inflation, it is now worthless as currency, but, depending on condition, probably has some value as a collectible.
If you mean Chile or Philippines:
Chile banknotes issued 1980 or later are probably still redeemable at about 520 pesos to the dollar.
Philippines banknotes issued prior to 1986 (which bear the signature of Ferdinand Marcos as president) have been demonetized and are no longer redeemable. Anything later is still good and worth about 46 pesos to US$1.

old peso's or new peso's?
The Mexican Peso was revalued on January 1, 1993. Pesos dated before that date (Old Mexican Pesos - MXP) are 1000 times less valuable than the New Mexican Pesos - MXN.
new $91,741.19
old $91.74
try your bank or go to the airport if you live near a large one. both places will probable charge a fee to convert it over.
also, you might want to call around for the best exchange rate. we all look it up at our source and got slightly different answers

$91,781.00530 Not bad, almosts 92K.
You should be able to transfer your pesos into dollars at a US bank where you have an account, although it might take 24 hours. Apart from that, there are "currency exchange offices" in just about any city, although there will be a service charge to make the exchange.
Good Luck!
