I am going to open an arcade in Chicago by 2010, and I need to know how arcade rentals work, and if the place that lets me borrow it gets a percentage of the profits, and how hard would it be, how much would it cost to open a 3,000 square foot arcade, thanks in advance.

Also note that there was a story released this week in a popular publication about retail shops or services that will not be around in the next 10 years. And yes Arcades was in the list as well as Record shops, Pay phones, and film manufactures.

Dave and Busters, Game Works, and Chuck E Cheese are firm commanders in the arcade business, A shop in a tourist destination might still prosper but Vegas is a no go.

Hey I wish you the best of luck, I am an avid game player and collector.

Most arcade locations buy their own games whereas smaller locations like liquor stores, laundry mats, etc. usually go through an operator. The operator normally splits the cash box intake 50/50. You provide the space and electricity, they supply the arcade game and do any maintenance. Sometimes the split is more depending on how new the game is and how good your location is.

With that said, you will probably have a hard time finding anyone who will want to put enough games to fit into a 3000 sq ft arcade. The reason being is that they will have to supply at least $100,000+ worth of games. New games can cost up to $15,000 so after the profit split, they won't be making much. Factor in depreciation of games (nobody wants to play an old arcade games that's a few months old) you're better off investing your money eslewhere.
