I need some help cooking my porterhouse. Normally I either grill it outside, or use a cast iron skillet.

I don't have any of those at the moment, so I ask you. How would you cook a 1 1/2 inch bone in, porterhouse steak? I have all the spices, but I can either cook it in a non stick skillet, or in the broiler.

How would you cook the steak, and how long would you cook a 1 1/2 bone in steak to get it medium to medium rare?

If you can't save that magnificent piece of meat for later when you have a grill, then use the non stick skillet to get it just right. I usually mess it up every time with the broiler.

I would personally never use either one of the methods you have provided. I would rather go to the grocery store and buy one of those cheap one-time use grills, and use that. If you can't get out to do that, perhaps I would build a fire, and cook it over the coals, using a stick, or something. Steaks are meant to be cooked outside, never on the stove!

I broil my steaks in a toaster oven. First I marinate it over night with Worchester sauce, and then let the toaster oven heat up. Then cook five minutes one side, and 3 minutes the other, I check inside to see if it's done the way I like weather it needs more cooking or not! My son loves it, I don't eat it.

Use the broiler, about 3 to 4 inches from the flame for about 8 minutes on each side.....enjoy...

Under the broiler. 5 minutes on the 1st side and 3 on the 2nd. That should give you a nice medium rare. ENJOY!

3 min on each side in the broiler is the easiest.

Broiling is the best way. You just have to check it, cut into it and see what the inside looks like. I broil my steaks all the time.
