I'm transferring in the spring and I want to move up there somewhere. I'm planning to visit before then but I want to have an idea for some places first.

John Carroll University, in University Heights (3 miles from Cleveland), has the most beautiful campus I have ever seen at a college. John Carroll's "Dolan Center for Science and Technology" is a brand-new, state of the art science research and teaching facility which houses the science and math departments. The Boler School of Business is also a highly promoted business school.
The campus is also convenient to downtown Cleveland, but has a great suburban feel away from the hustle and bustle of the city itself- not to mention the traffic. Additionally, John Carroll was ranked in the top 50 Colleges in the United States by U.S. News & World.
(Not that I'm bragging or anything- I go here).

Case Western Reserve University's programs are world-renowned, however research opportunities in the science departments are almost non-existent for undergraduates. The Kelvin Smith Library at Case has one of the largest selections of books available at any college. The campus also has the most Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single location anywhere in the world (excluding NASA's command center in Houston) However, having lived in Cleveland my entire life, the immediate surroundings of the urban campus are somewhere I wouldn't want to walk by myself.

As for locations to live, the East suburbs are nice places to live, and apartments are moderately priced.

Hope you find the place that's right for you!

I believe Case Western Reserve is the top-ranked NE Ohio university by U.S. News & World Report, with strong programs in accounting, law, biosciences and engineering. It is located in one of the cultural meccas of the U.S., featuring the Cleveland Museum of Art, and Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Cleveland State is convenient if you work downtown, and has very strong night graduate schools as it is largely a commuter school with a mission of supporting Cleveland businesses. Its accounting and engineering programs are especially strong.

John Carroll has several strong programs and a beautiful campus.

Kent State has perhaps the largest nursing program in the country, and is quite good at accounting, polymers, fashion, and probably several other fields that I don't recall.

Univ. of Akron also has strong programs in accounting, taxation, law, and chemical engineering.

The strong engineering and accounting programs reflect Cleveland's industrial history. At one time, one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms (Ernst & Whinney) was headquartered in Cleveland. National accounting firms have consolidated into the "Big Four."

There have been numerous posts in the last few days about places to live in N.E. Ohio.

Case Western Reserve is one of the top schools, if you decide to go there, you may want to live in Cleveland Heights, in the Coventry area or the Cedar Fairmount area, those are the closest to the college, and a lot of Case students live in those areas as well.(you can be in walking distance living on Cedar) Or you could live in Little Italy.
John Carol is also a top school, and you could live in University Heights, that is where the school is located, and University Hts. is a nice suburb as well.
One of my friends went to Baldwin Wallace, and moved to Berea, he really like living out there.
A lot of my friends went to Kent, they say the city is so small down there, when they crossed the street they were in Ravena, but they really liked it.
Someone said Cleveland State, I go to CSU and I wouldn't suggest going here, most of their departments are a joke, and they constantly mess up your financial aid. The professor are nice and they do go the extra mile for you, but they don't have very strong programs. It's more like if you want your masters degree then go to CSU, because you live in Cleveland.

I know that the Cleveland State University is a really nice college. They are in the process of renovating a lot of things and building new housing units and buildings.

Well, there is Kent State, Case Western, John Carroll University that are all great schools depending on your field of study. I am partial to living in the Chagrin Falls, Solon, Aurora, Hudson communities as they are picture perfect, safe and simply lovely areas.
