as you age your bones soften so your spine bends and thus this gives the impression that you have shrunk

LOL Speaking as a 50yr old who has shrunk 3ins from 5'11" to 5'8" it's because I have a bone disease called Osteoporosis that is very common in older people causing shrinkage and loss of bone density and resulting in a lot of broken bones (Ribs in my case)
