Gaviscon Advanced worked the best for me... I had it really, really bad towards the end and lived on the stuff, it was so bad the only thing that didn't give me reflux was water. Tums can give you temporary relief too. Milk can make heart burn worse in some ppl, so next time you get really bad heartburn don't drink milk and see if it makes a difference.

Also, try eating small meals throughout the day, as your stomach acids will be "busy" digesting the food and won't "bubble up" to give you heartburn.

Good luck! I know how you feel... once the baby's born you'll immediately feel better.

Sleep propped up in a semi-sitting position, or raise the head of your bed by putting the two legs up on cinder blocks.

Medications:

Calcium-based antacids (like TUMS™) are not very useful as antacids; while they provide a great source of calcium, they cause your stomach to increase its production of acid an hour after they are taken.

Mylanta™, Maalox™, and other magnesium-based antacids seem to give longer lasting relief of symptoms. Many women find that the liquid form works best. In healthy women, the dosage of these medications is not critical. It is fine to keep a bottle by the bed and take a gulp or two during the night when necessary. If you get diarrhea, which is the most common side effect of Magnesium-based antacids, you will need to decrease the amount you are taking or try a different treatment.

Over-the-counter H2-blocker antacids (such as Pepsid™, Tagamet™ and Zantac™) are also safe in pregnancy. Do not exceed the recommended dose without checking with your doctor.

Prescription medications are also available. Sucralfate (Carafate™) liquid is an excellent choice since it is not absorbed into the body. It simply coats the stomach and esophagus. Its one drawback is that is can be constipating. Ask you doctor or nurse-midwife if it would be a good choice for you.

Acid reflux and indigestion are not dangerous

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I take Tums when I get heartburn.. it works well for me.. I would just ask the doctor before taking anything over the counter.. just to be sure it's safe for the baby.. My doctor told me Tums was fine.. hope this helps!

I had heartburn so bad w/ my first and I was told to drink something w/ carbonation. And since I didn't want a lot of caffeine, Sprite helped w/ the nausea and the heartburn both. Sounds crazy but it worked for me.

I love tums "smoothie" tablets, that are the best tasting out of all the acid products. Consult your dr if you need something stronger.

I found that I get heartburn no matter if I eat bread and milk or if I eat jalapeno poppers. Eat what you want, just follow with the tums.

I just recently asked my OB about this problem, he said anything that don't have Magnesium in it. Due to the defects that is associated with it. I was told Tums, if you can handle the taste, is the best thing, and this will also help with the morning sickness, and sour stomach. So anything that doesn't have Magnesium.

Lots of extra water work for me especially after I eat or before I lay down. The other thing is ginger or chamomile or peppermint leaves in tea.
