The government lodes their pockets with all of our tax dollors and let the poor get poorer and the sick get sicker without any help from them. I just think they should take all their raises back from 20 years back and use that money to help the poor and the sick in housing and hospital stay. What do you think?

I so agree. It always seems they vote themselves nice hefty raises, when it's the least appropriate time to do so. Just because they are Congressmen, etc... doesn't mean they have to fly 1st class, own several homes, and live the good life. It makes it too easy for them to forget about us little guys. I don't think they should be allowed to vote themselves pay raises at all. A raise should be based on merit, and cost of living, nothing more. I bet if they were paid a regular wage like the rest of us, they would most likely be more responsible with government spending, and not loading up Bills with a bunch of un-necessary crap that ends up costing the taxpayers billions, to fund someone's pet project.

It seems to me they care more about their own place in the political arena, than actually representing those who voted for them. And of course they tell us anything we want to hear, just to get re-elected, so they can continue living the good life, while barely doing any actual work. Two faced *******.

But we the people do have the power.... if we would only exercise it!! We can get these greedy SOB's out of office, if we would simply vote them out in the next election. Unfortunately too many people are apathetic, and have a tendency to believe everything the media feeds them, and have no interest in trying to sort out the one's who actually want to serve their constituants, and those who are just spewing empty promises. And then there are those who choose to remain completely ignorant of the world around them period, as long as it has no effect on their personal lives, (Ignorance is bliss?) so they don't even bother to vote.

It is really sad that our government has become so corrupt. (Our founding father's are probably turning in their graves)
This is supposed to be the greatest country in the world, but if we don't get off our butts and do something to change the corruption in the current government, we are going to end up a 3rd world country. That is why it is so important to research each candidate, and get out there and VOTE!!!

We also need to make some changes in the government, like getting rid of the special interest groups, and the corporate lobbyists money temptations, that sway congressional votes. Bring back the line item veto, so they can't add a bunch of stupid greedy BS to the Bills, before they are passed. Bills would get passed so much faster this way, because the President would have the power to veto only the bad parts of a Bill, and pass the good parts.

I, and many other people have had it with the right wing conservative republican holier than thou attitude, that has been shoved down our throats by the Bush presidency, when he himself, has been lying his face off for 8 years, stole the election the 1st time with the help of baby brother in Florida, and continues to believe invading Iraq before finishing in Afganistan was the right thing to do. The man is an idiot, and I still can't believe he got re-elected. (Heck, the man still can't pronounce nuclear correctly, and his wife is a freaking teacher) Although I'm sure there was some sort of cheating going on just like the 1st election. It is just so subtle and underhanded that no one catches on until it's too late.

This is getting too long, but I think you get my drift.

Because we don't get a say so on how much they are paid, the have a vote among themselves to see if they should get a pay raise. Is it right? NO, but there isn't really anything we can do about it. The sad thing is, is that most of these people are wealthy to begin with, which makes it worse when we hear about it.

Thomas Jefferson once said: "When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself public property."
Unfortunately, our elected officials and appointed bureaucrats have established themselves as privileged royalty instead of public servants.
Keith Preston once said: "Democracy: an institution in which the whole is equal to the scum of its parts."
Our government has become bloated, corrupt, and incompetent, simply because the citizens refuse to hold our public servants' feet to the fire.
George Bernard Shaw once said: "Democracy is a form of government that substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few."
Until American citizens get off the couch, put down the remote, and demand to take their country back, America will continue to slide ever closer into political quicksand. There are very few years left before we wake up and find ourselves in a totalitarian state. -RKO- 10/04/07

The want to ruin this country. Is part of a new world order control. The want to get the population down. They want 80% gone. they want a cashless world and every one chipped like a dumb animal. control us in every thing we do. one big daddy. Controling us and protecting us from our selves. They want control. They done it by design. we the people of the united states of America have rights according to the constitution!
why we just let them stripe them away in beyond me. The use the media to control us by fear. the use tv comercails to draw us to things, unknowningly in most cases. example make a comercail showing that debit card is better then using cash. when in reality it takes longer to use a debit card then to pay cash. major propaganda being put on by our governement. they don't do as the constitution says they are suppose to do. look out for our liberties. They don;t look out for us at all. they don't care and they trying to take all of our freedoms away. The constitution is more then just a piece of paper it is our rights. reguardless of when it was written. It still stands today. yet the people let them pass all these illegal laws and not try to do a thing about it. I say the dumbing down of america has worked.. Just look at the mindless garbage we see today.

Sometimes the politicians sneak in pay raises for themselves. The provision is that the pay raises begin at the next election, but they get reelected.

The public concentrates on the annual salary. What the public does not know is the perks that they get.

i've got continually questioned this too. What precisely do the present republicans "look after" - curiously no longer money nor stable will. they're the crookedest bunch of cowards ever to get everywhere close to the White homestead. like the German Nazis of previous they tell lie after lie and ruin regulation after regulation and purely venture the international to end them. Too undesirable we could no longer have impeached creepy Li'l Bush and his cheese-head vice chairman. yet there will be prosecution for crimes after Bush is out of place of work and can't pull "government privilege" anymore.

After 6 years retirement I will be getting back more than I paid in working for the government and taxpayers will pick up the bill. Sad but true.
