HP PSC All-In-One printers are available for low costs of about US $70 - $90 and are highly reliable. Lexmark markets even cheaper and reliable. all-in-one printers. Personally, I use the HP PSC all-in-one 1410 model inkjet printer; it cost me $95 in 2005 but it will be probably cheaper now.

Your lowest cost per page are laser printers. Yeah, they are more expensive up-front and the cartridges appear more expensive, but their per-page cost is the lowest.

Lexmark gives you exactly what you pay for. Cheap. As an IT guy I've run into problems with epson and canon. There are lots of happy epson and canon owners. Units less than $100 are designed to fail quickly. If they last more than their warranty period, then they take really, really expensive ink instead of just expensive ink.

Inkjets are so cheap because they make a profit when you buy the ink. So much so they most likely lose money on the sale of the printer. A more expensive HP ~$200 is the only inkjet I would recommend.

I have a really good printer--scan, print, and copies. Its an HP PSC 1410v--I bought it at Wal-Mart for $60. The black ink is $14, and the color ink is $17 at Wal-Mart as well.
